Phrasal Verbs (7)

Let’s look at some phrasal verbs related to friendship. Notice the first three all use the word touch! Remember, some phrasal verbs can be divided and some cannot. They have been divided below when possible. If they are not divided, you cannot do so!

Get in touch: To contact or communicate with somebody. / Posar-se en contacte amb algú. / Ponerse en contacto con alguien.
I need to get in touch with Peter and tell him the good news.


Keep in touch: To maintain contact or communication with somebody. / Mantenir el contacte amb algú. / Mantenerse en contacto con alguien.
It was nice meeting you, let’s keep in touch.


Lose touch: To stop contact or communication with somebody (not because of an argument, but due to other circumstances). / Perdre el contacte amb algú. / Perder el contacto con alguien.
Over the years we have lost touch with each other. I haven’t seen her in years.


Catch up: To update after a long time without information about each other. / Posar-se al dia. / Ponerse al día.
I haven’t seen you in ages, we should catch up soon!


Get on/along: To have a good relationship with someone else. / Portar-se bé amb algú. / Llevarse bien con alguien.
I get along very well with my work colleagues.


Fall out: To stop being friends. / Deixar de ser amics. / Dejar de ser amigos.
We fell out after he refused to pay back the money he owed me.


Go out: To start or maintain a romantic relationship. / Sortir amb algú. / Salir con alguien
I have been going out with my girlfriend for 3 years now.


Split / Break up: To end a romantic relationship. / Trencar la relació. / Romper la relación.
My girlfriend broke up with me a month ago.
